Back in the old days if someone sidled up to you on the street and asked if you wanted a massage you could be fairly sure that they would take you somewhere where you would get every last bit of you thoroughly massaged. Then came the concept of the spa.

bangkok massage parlours Now it seems you can't walk five paces with being offered some kind of massage and while many of them will undoubtedly be very pleasant and relaxing they will not sooth a nagging errection.

Obviously, if you can see couches through the window or if you can smell heady vapours as you wander past, they are for more traditional types of massage. The folks you are interested in usually come clutching little brochures filled with enticing pictures and muttering things like "you want body massage?" This is the soapy bath with a naked masseuse.

Pushy? yes, but usually safe. Just keep an eye on where you going, ask how far it is, remember the name of the parlour on the leaflet. It should be no more than a short walk. The tout gets a commission for delivering customers. So do taxi drivers. You need never be ashamed or embarrassed to tell a taxi driver you want to go for a massage. The downside of that is you may get asked to pay an extra B100 or so. That said it is so much better if you already know where to go.

In some places you pay a basic fee for massage and then negotiate with the girl for extra* services. Other places the fee is inclusive but a tip for the girl (or girls) at the end will be greatly appreciated.

This is not a complete list, there are too many of them for that. It is a list of the ones I know about.

There is a little road behind the JW Marriot Hotel between Soi 2 and 4. The Massage parlour is at the Soi 2 end. There is also Annies Bar on the same little road.

Easy to find. Just a few paces down on the right.

Cupidy
Plaza Entertainment Complex, New Petchburi Road
B2,000, B3,000 - 2 hours, full service
Plaza Entertainment Complex is behind the Prince Hotel. The nearest MRT is Petchburi, leave by exit 2 and turn left into New Petchburi Road. The Prince Hotel can be seen on the right. Turn right in to Nikkhom Makkasan. Find the Entrance to Cupidy in the car park.

Love Teen
Sukhumvit Soi 33
Starting at B1,200 for one girl/one hour and going up as the number of hours/girls increases. Extra services are no doubt available.
This is one of several on this Soi. They are further along than that 'Artist Bars' and seem to be aimed primarily at the Japanese market. (Though it's unlikely that non-Japanese would be turned away). There is a menu of traditional type services and a photo album from which to choose your girl, or girls. Most of them looked very attractive indeed.

Mona Lisa
New Petchburi Road
This place closed in early July. I was told for redecoration but then someone else told me they simply went out of business. It's not too far from Cupidy so if you pass by and find more upto date info drop me a line.
Leave Petchburi MRT by exit one. Turn left in front of the flyover and walk along New Petchburi Road. Mona Lisa is a large windowless building on the left just past the footbridge.

There are of course plenty more, I don't go to them is because they are in inconvenient loctions and they would be pretty hard to find for anyone without a good knowledge of Bangkok. There are apparently a few that don't accept westerners but I have never been turned away. I will add more as I find them.

*Extra services can be anything from a hand job to full sex and the extra fees for these services will start at around B1,000. Much will depend on the policy of the massage parlour, the individual girl and your negotiating skills.

How do you know before you go in? Well just ask, nobody will be surprised.
